Over 25 tons of release paper waste recycled

The release paper of marginal stripes: a waste product of label production

The awareness of the environment has grown in all areas. Either the drinking straws, paper pasta packaging, the planned ban on plastic bags or furniture made of recycling materials – there is still plenty of potential to save resources which is by far not exhausted yet. The production process of labels as well leads to waste, which can also be upcycled as recycling material.

Here it is the release paper of the marginal stripes waste – that is the material overlaying on the sides of the roll which remains after the separating. When the label panels will be cut on both sides to the required size in the manufacturing, the marginal stripes remain. The initial production width of the label panel is necessary because the fiducial marks are located there and the additional width is technically necessary for the separating. The release paper is provided with a silicone layer and remains on the adhesive reverse side of the labels until the application at the customers´.

The release paper of the resulted marginal stripes is waste material and can be recycled. The marginal stripes will be vacuumed directly during the cutting process at the machine and go through a pipe system to a shredder and into a collection container. The resulting scraps will be filled into special big cardboard boxes and picked up by the recycling partner Cycle4Green. They process the marginal paper waste to new products, which is perfect in regard to the environmental aspects and enables a closed recycling circuit. Due to the recycling the use of resources and thus the CO2-emission will be reduced. Annually there are approx. 360 000 tons of marginal paper waste in the label manufacturing in Europe, from which 80% will be deposited and approx. 16% will be incinerated for thermal energy. Within 12 months, Robos has recycled over 25 tons of marginal paper waste from release paper. Another advantage is avoiding disposing costs, whereof eventually the Robos customers profit as well.

The release paper of the margins can be recycled.

Consequent environmental management

Robos also takes responsibilities for the nature in different areas. This starts in the production with a conscientious choice of materials and ends in the management with the consequent saving of paper. The electricity is 100% ecological and comes from EEG- and TÜV-certified plants. Since the year 2009 Robos has completed its management system and is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001 environmental management.
